Diagnostic reasoning with A-Prolog
In this paper we suggest an architecture for a software agent which operates a physical device and is capable of making observations and of testing and repairing the device’s components. We present simplified definitions of the notions of symptom, candidate diagnosis, and diagnosis which are based on the theory of action language AL. The definitions allow one to give a simple account of the age...
متن کاملExtending Prolog with Nonmonotonic Reasoning
Nonmonotonic reasoning has been developed to capture common sense inferences. This paper considers nonmonotonic reasoning in logic programs with negation { its implementation using Prolog and its integration with Prolog execution. Even within logic programming frameworks, a variety of inferencing methods, model-theoretic semantics, and language features have been proposed for diierent forms of ...
متن کاملEquational Reasoning for Prolog
Equational Reasoning is a feature of Functional Programming much envied by Logic Programmers. We argue that logic programmers should not shy away from adopting equational reasoning because of perceived pitfalls, but rather embrace it to indulge in its many benefits. We propose and illustrate two approaches: a cumbersome indirection via Haskell and a more insightful approach directly in Prolog.
متن کاملProlog Based Description Logic Reasoning
In this paper we present the recent developments of the DLog system, an ABox reasoning engine for the the SHIQ description logic language. DLog differs from traditional description logic reasoners in that it transforms description logic axioms into a Prolog program. The transformation is done independently from the ABox, i.e. the set of assertions about the individuals. This makes it possible t...
متن کاملDiagnostic Reasoning with Anaesthesia Knowledge
This paper reports on a collaboration between two research groups. The first group has studied Formalization of ANaesthesia knowledge (FAN). An aim in the knowledge formalization was support of diagnosis, but the diagnostic method to be used was itself not formalized at the time. The second group has developed a general framework for diagnostic reasoning. The framework is parametrized to accoun...
